Ironman Lake Placid, NY July 20th, 2008

The 10th Annual USA Ironman Triathlon is Sunday, July 20th, 2008 beginning at 7am in Lake Placid, NY. The race begins in Lake Placid, NY and goes into the surrounding communites of Keene, NY, Upper Jay, NY, Black Brook, NY and Wilmington, NY. The 2.4 mile swim on Mirror Lake begins at 7am, 112 mile Bike begins at 8am and finishes with the 26.2 mile run at Noon with a 12midnight cut off. Each year this event brings 2000 athletes to compete and thoursands of people to watch and volunteer. 80 athletes will qualify for the 2008 Ford Ironman World Championship. Getting around in Lake Placid, NY

Concerned over parking or getting around in Lake Placid, NY? You have these options if you'd like to park at an exterior area of the village and tour one of these ways!

Placid Xpress is a free trolly service offered by the Village. Look for the green Trolly signs throughout the village. Some main parking area options are at Price Chopper, Coldbrook Plaza (former Tops Grocery store, which is closed), the Train Station and several other stops.  Hours are Weekends Only from Memorial Day to July 3rd, Daily from July 4-Labor Day, back to Weekends Only labor Day-Columbus Day. Electric Cars for rent: Greg's E-Cruiser electric cars are available for rent May-November 10am-8pm. These are great for getting around the village... 25mph top speed. Rates are $119 per day or $69 for 2 hours. Visit http://gecruisers.com/ or call 518-524-7894.

Lake Placid & I Love NY Horse Shows are here!

The Lake Placid Horse Show continues through June 29th, 2008 and the I Love NY Horse Show begins on July 1 through July 6, 2008. Events take place 8am-5pm with several opportunities to see horse jumping and great vendors. Stop out and watch the jumping, go shopping and have some food! General admission is $2 weekdays and $5 weekends per person. Children 12 & under are free when accompanied by an adult. Lake Placid Farmers' Market returns summer 2008!

The Lake Placid Farmers' Market returns to the Lake Placid Center for the Arts for its summer outdoor market 2008. From June 11-October 15, 2008 the market will be outside at the LPCA from 9am-1pm on Wednesdays only, then moving inside for the fall. You should check this out! Items for sale include vegetables, herbs, fruits, cheese, meats, breads, pastries, soups, snacks, maple syrup, hand carved bowls and utensils, artwork, crafts direct from the grower or artist!
